Oral Hygiene at Home

Oral Hygiene at Home

May 14, 2020

With the temporary closures of public dental facilities in place to slow the spread of COVID-19, we have compiled some Hygienist-approved tips to care for your teeth at home. Keep up with your oral hygiene and make your Dentist proud by following some of the following best practices:

  • Clean in between! Most cavities form between the teeth, so a great way to prevent them from forming is by flossing day and night; we recommend Glide Floss or Johnson & Johnson Waxed. A great alternative to flossing is a Waterpik, to help remove plaque from the tooth’s surface.
  • Don’t forget to rinse! Listerine is a great example of a therapeutic rinse to kill the bad bacteria in the mouth that causes cavities and gingivitis. Salt-water rinses can be an easy, effective alternative, and can be made using 1 tsp. of salt in a cup of water.
  • Brush, brush! While many of us are not in our usual routines, it’s important to keep our dental health on-track by brushing twice daily with a fluoride toothpaste. For those at high-risk for cavities, a high-fluoride toothpaste such as Clinpro 5000 or PreviDent 5000 may be necessary (as recommended by your Hygienist).
  • Ease up, sensitivity! Teeth that are sensitive to hot and cold sensations may be relieved by rubbing Sensodyne toothpaste on the root of the tooth. If dental pain persists, call your dentist to allow them to assess over the phone.

Call the front store at 250-951-0243 and allow us to set aside your Waterpik, toothpaste, and dental care essentials for curbside pick-up.
